Frequently Asked Questions:

How does the Sight Selector Eye Subscription Work?

The Sight Selector Eye Subscription provides access to all current and future programs and user upgrades providing your subscription is current. The subscription renews annually and you will be notified within the Subscription App prior to your renewal deadline. You will first download the Subscription App from the App Store. After downloading, call PEC at 800-436-9126 and provide us with the email, password, and Practice name you want associated with your iPads. You will then activate your subscription.

Next, click on the “Download & Setup Topics” link. Here you can “Download All Topics” or you can select only the topics you want to download. Once they are all downloaded you can use the On/Off toggle switch to “show” or “hide” the topic on your “My Topics” page. Unused topics can be deleted on the Set-up page. You can retrieve a deleted topic anytime by simply touching the “Download” button for the deleted topic and it will re-download.

Only the Sight Selector Eye Subscription App provides the ability to “Print Handout” for each topic. In order to print a handout, you need to be connected to a wireless network and have your device synced with a wireless printer. Your practice name will appear at the top of the color, one-page Handout. Your Practice Name will also appear on the “My Topics” page on your device.

The “User Info / Tutorials” tab on this page will explain how the other iPad features and functions work on both Sight Selector iPad Apps.

How do I purchase the Sight Selector for the iPad?

You can purchase the Sight Selector LITE App within your iTunes account or through the Apple’s App Store. You will download the Sight Selector Eye Subscription App from the App Store, but call PEC at 800-436-9126 to receive activation instruction. (Search for Sight Selector in the App Store.)

How many iPads or iPhones can I load the Sight Selector Eye Subscription on?

You can download the Sight Selector Eye Subscription App onto 5 iPad or iPhone devices. You can purchase licenses for additional iPads or iPhones if you purchase the Eye Subscription Application directly through PEC by calling PEC at 800-436-9126 before you purchase the subscription from iTunes.

How do I load the Sight Selector Eye Subscription onto 4 of my other devices?

  1. Touch the App Store icon and download the Sight Selector Eye Subscription app.
  2. Once downloaded, touch the “Program” icon to open the App and accept the terms.
  3. Touch “Activate Subscription on this iPad,” then enter the password and username you used to purchase the initial license.
  4. Then press “Log In”.

Repeat the steps above to setup additional iPads.

How much is each of the Sight Selector Apps?

There are two versions of the Sight Selector for iPad and iPhone.

Sight Selector Eye Subscription – Provides access to all current and future topics and updates during your active subscription. It is the only Sight Selector for iPad app that includes the capability of printing color handouts of each topic with your Practice Name at the top of the page. It is currently priced at less than $1/day or $349/year if purchased from iTunes or $299/year if purchased via PEC, and you can sync it to five devices.

Sight Selector Lite – Allows you to download the Anatomy Topic for free. Individual topics can then be purchased at prices ranging from $6.99 to $49.99 each.

Once you buy an app, only the apps you own show up on your device. At the bottom of the screen, click on the “STORE” tab to view the list of additional topics you may purchase individually.

Sight Selector Premium – First introduced in 2010, Sight Selector Premium is no longer supported.

What about updates to the App software and the availability of new topics?

All new topics and software updates are included in the Sight Selector Eye Subscription App as long as your subscription is current. The person who registered as the subscriber will receive an email and they will see a written notification within the app’s set-up page.

If you are using the Sight Selector Lite, you will be notified with a “push notification” as long as you allow push notifications from Sight Selector in your Settings under “Notifications.” The new topics will appear in the STORE tab where you can elect to purchase the new title(s) or any other available title. Upgrades to the software are included at no charge but not all upgrades are included in all Sight Selector Applications.

Can I use other videos I own in the Sight Selector program?

Yes. You can add any program that is in the MPG-4 format into the Sight Selector. To do this, you will first transfer the video file into your iTunes “Movies” library. Then sync your device to your iTunes Account. Then check the Movies in your Library that you want to “Apply” to your device.

You may then add your videos to a “Play List” by clicking on the +Add Video from Library tab and select the video you want to add to your list, then click DONE. You can then save and name the list so it will now appear within the “Save Play List” tab.

Which iPad should I buy?

There are currently three price points for the iPad. The least expensive is the Wi-Fi model with a 16GB hard drive. This means it can only connect to the Internet when you are within an open Wi-Fi network. We recommend the 16GB unit. You should also only consider the iPad 2 and later as the iPad 1 cannot be upgraded to the latest Apple software so some of the Sight Selector features will not work.

Note: If you plan to use other programs on your iPad, you should consider the system requirements of those programs when making your decision of which unit to purchase.

Do I need to be connected to Wi-Fi to use the Sight Selector App?

Wi-Fi access is not required to run the Sight Selector program. When you purchase and download the program from the App Store, the program files are downloaded onto your device’s hard drive.

What is the best way to download it?

You can download it within your iTunes program then sync it to your iPad or iPhone, or you can purchase and download via the App Store on your iPad or iPhone directly if you are within a Wi-Fi network and have an established iTunes Account. Because the application is larger than most (due to the high quality images and videos) we don’t recommend using the 3G network to download (if you own an iPad with 3G connectivity). We recommend downloading it while connected to a Wi-fi network. Set the Auto-Lock in your settings to NEVER until all programs are downloaded.

How do I find the Sight Selector in the App store?

Go to the App Store on iTunes and use the search words “Sight Selector.” You will see the two current apps: “Eye Subscription” and “Lite”.

How can I get my already purchased Sight Selector Lite topics on my new iPad without having to pay again?

Please follow the steps below to install your already purchased Sight Selector topics onto your new iPad:
1) Make sure you have a reliable Wi-Fi connection.
2) Verify that your screen Auto-Lock settings are set to “Never”.
3) Be sure that your device is setup to use the same iTunes account you used to originally purchase the topics.
4) Install Sight Selector Lite application on new device.
5) Open Sight Selector Lite application.
6) Touch “Store” button on the bottom navigation.
7) Scroll all the way down to the bottom of topic list and touch “Restore My Purchases”.

We recommend leaving the device undisturbed until all your topics have downloaded. This will prevent any interruption in your Wi-Fi connection while your topics are downloading. You can check the status of your downloads by touching the “My Topics” button on the bottom navigation.

How do I put the Sight Selector Lite APP on additional iPads for use in my office?

Installing the Sight Selector app and already purchased topics is done on the iPad, not by syncing the iPad to a PC. Before you begin, you will want to be sure that each iPad is setup with the same iTunes account originally used to purchase the Sight Selector topics. Touch the “Settings” icon on your iPad. Touch “iTunes & App Stores” on the left side of the screen.

On the right side of the screen, you will see the existing iTunes account settings. If you are not already signed into an account, type your Apple ID and password into the fields on the top right of the screen, then touch the “Sign In” button. If you are currently signed into an account, you will see the Apple ID (email address) listed at the top. Touch this field, then touch the “Sign Out” button on the pop-up window.

You can then insert the Apple ID and password for the account you want to use and touch the “Sign In” button. Next, verify that you have a reliable Wi-Fi connection. A poor Wi-Fi connection can result in problems with the video files such as hesitation, skipping and poor audio quality. You will also want to be sure that your screen Auto-Lock settings are set to “Never”. Follow the steps below to install your already purchased Sight Selector topics onto your new iPad(s):
1) Touch the App Store button on your iPad. Search for “Sight Selector Lite”.
2) Select the Sight Selector Lite App option and touch the green “Install” button. The program will begin installing on your device.
3) Once the installation is complete, touch the Sight Selector icon to open the program.
4) Touch the “Store” button” on the bottom navigation.
5) Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the list and touch “Restore My Purchases” button.

We recommend leaving the device undisturbed until all your topics have downloaded. This will prevent any interruption in your Wi-Fi connection while your topics are downloading. You can check the status of your downloads by touching the “My Topics” button on the bottom navigation.

I purchased a couple of new Sight Selector topics, but they are “stuck” downloading, what do I do?

First, confirm your iPad is setup with the same iTunes account originally used to purchase the Sight Selector topics. Next, verify that you have a reliable Wi-Fi connection. A poor Wi-Fi connection can result in problems with the video files such as hesitation, skipping and poor audio quality. In addition, you should verify that your screen Auto-Lock settings are set to “Never”. Open the Sight Selector App and touch the “My Topics” button on the bottom navigation. Scroll to the bottom of the list and touch the “Re-download My Topics”. We recommend leaving the device undisturbed until all your topics have downloaded. This will prevent any interruption in your Wi-Fi connection while your topics are downloading.

How do I change the iTunes account settings on my iPad?

Touch the “Settings” icon on your iPad. Touch “iTunes & App Stores” on the left side of the screen. On the right side of the screen, you will see the existing iTunes account settings.

If you are not already signed into an account, type your Apple ID and password into the fields on the top right of the screen, then touch the “Sign In” button.

If you are currently signed into an account, you will see the Apple ID (email address) listed at the top. Touch this field, then touch the “Sign Out” button on the pop-up window. You can then insert the Apple ID and password for the account you want to use and touch the “Sign In” button.

Is there a way to prevent patients from downloading music or deleting apps on the iPads we use for counseling?

Yes! Touch the “General Settings” icon on the iPad. In the General Settings area you will find an option called “Restrictions”. Restrictions are set to “off” by defalt. Touch the Restrictions button to see a list of activities that can be restricted. By touching the “Enable Restrictions” button you will be prompted to create a password. Next, touch the “on” button next to the desired activity to turn the activity “off”. Once these settings are in place the user must enter the password in order to use the restricted activities.

My Sight Selector videos have no audio, what is wrong?

This typically means that the “mute” setting on your iPad has been inadvertently turned on. On the top right corner of your iPad there is a small black switch. If you see a little orange dot, your mute is turned on. Just slide the switch to the opposite position to turn the mute off.

The next most common cause of lost audio is the volume control being turned all the way down. The volume control is located right under the mute switch on the top right of the iPad. Press the top or bottom of the switch to adjust the volume level.
